RADIANT LIGHT YOGA THERAPY COURSE 2010
Here are some essential details for the upcoming yoga therapy course.

WHAT IS THE INTENTION OF THIS COURSE?
Yoga Therapy as a therapeutic system of healing is a powerful modality to help facilitate balance, radiant health, clarity, and wholeness. Our intention in offering this course is to assist qualified yoga teachers to gain essential training to be able to safely and effectively work one on one with students/clients in a variety of applications. We will address specific health issues as well as helping yoga students refine their practise. This course may also prove to be transformational for the participants as we focus on the importance of personal sadhana.

LOCATION:
The course will be held at the Nataraja Yoga Temple in the central hinterland of the Sunshine Coast – 1.5 hours north of Brisbane. The facility is located 15 minutes from the Bruce Hwy (Nambour/Mudjimba exit). The Yoga Temple rests in a beautiful valley surrounded by trees and open pastureland.
Please note: The Yoga temple is non-residential.

This course has 3 main aspects:

1. INTERNAL COMPONENT:                                                     
This is our in-class time when we meet together 1 weekend per month for one year. This will be approximately 200 hours. We will meet the 3rd weekend of each month beginning in February 2010. This schedule lasts for one year – through January 2011.

  • Saturday’s session begins at 8:00am and ends at 5:00pm.
  • Sunday’s session begins at 9:00am and ends at 5:00pm.

 
Curriculum:

  • Methodology for working one on one in a yoga therapy session.
  • Learning to treat the whole person from a yogic perspective.
  • How to modify yogic practises to suit the individual and their constitution.
  • How to work with specific conditions to assist the healing process.
  • How to work progressively with a client, through the principles of vinyasa krama.
  • How to identify key alignment points in asanas to assist practitioners of all levels for safety and effectiveness.
  • Hands-on adjusting as a healing art. The power of touch and its application to yoga therapy.
  • The art and science of pranayama as a therapeutic tool.
  • The art and science of mudra, mantra, and meditation for healing and spiritual transformation.
  • Explore visualisation and yoga nidra as healing techniques.
  • Study and practise the power of affirmation as taught by Paramahansa Yogananda.
  • Ayurvedic principles for identifying your client’s constitution. This will enable you to adapt yoga practises to suit their needs.
  • Understanding the Gunas for mental and physical health.
  • Yoga philosophy as a tool for deep healing.
  • Learn basic counselling skills.
  • Learn skills in how to protect yourself energetically.
  • Learn the ethics of working one on one with a client.

 

2. EXTERNAL COMPONENT:
The external (outside of class) hours will be approximately 150 hours. This self-study time between our in-class meetings will help you to integrate and deepen your understanding of yoga and yoga therapeutics.
• Reading assignments will be given to complement the course material. You are responsible for acquiring the required books.
• Research: You are required to write a research paper choosing a topic within the realm of yoga therapeutics.
• Review: After each weekend there is a take-home list of questions to help you consolidate your learning.
• Hands-on practise: You will be given assignments for home practise.

 

3. INTERNSHIP/MENTORSHIP COMPONENT:
This lasts for 6 months after the yearlong course.

  • You will be required to lead and document 20 yoga therapy sessions during this time.
  • In addition, during the 6 month internship you will meet one on one with the instructors 6 times – 1 meeting per month.

 

FINANCIAL COMMITMENT:

  • A $300 deposit will hold your space (non-refundable after November 1, 2009)
  • Option 1: The total cost of this year and a half course (not including books) is $3500 if paid in full ($3200 after deposit).
  • Option 2: – (After paying deposit):
    • !st payment due January 1st, 2010 - $1,500.
    • 2nd payment due July 1st, 2010 - $1,200.
    • 3rd payment due November 1st, 2010 - $800.
  • Please note that course payments are not refundable.

 

PREREQUISITES:

  • It is required that you have graduated from a recognized Yoga Teacher Training Course.
  • A commitment to living a yogic lifestyle in accordance with the Yamas and Niyamas.
  • We ask that you abstain from all mind-altering substances such as drugs and alcohol for the duration of the course.
  • Out of respect for the Yoga Temple and spiritual practise we ask the participants to wear reasonably modest dress. Fitted yoga gear is fine.
  • We ask that you commit to being on time for all the sessions.
